EU-MenNet
Impact of meningococcal epidemiology and population biology on public health in Europe
The project targets meningococcal disease, one of the most severe childhood infections in Europe, with incidence rates of up to 50/100,000 for children aged 0-4 and mortality rates approaching 20%. A pan-European infrastructure for the investigation and surveillance of meningococcal disease will be built up for the analysis of the meningococcal population structure and the dynamics of the spread of the causative organism, Neisseria meningitidis. The insights obtained will improve public health interventions.
